BBC News - News of the World to close amid hacking scandal

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14070733

Murdoch's Little Jimmy has announced the closing--yes, the closing--of the News of the World. The tragic story of how corruption and stupidity destroyed the reputation and viability of a 170 years cultural institution. I suppose this is what they call Murdoch's genius.

BBC - Glow JavaScript Library
The BBC has released their own JavaScript library. Before you cry, "oh god, really?! Another js lib?!" there really are some nice looking bits here. Most impressive is the browser support, which stretches back quite far. The syntax is familiar otherwise. I even commented to a colleague this morning that it looks a lot like jQuery with wider browser support. Of course, jQuery's influence is far reaching to most JavaScript libs these days. I, for one, like all the options we have for doing JavaScript development, and this one looks like a worthy addition.

BBC News - Internet has 'not become the great leveller’
"The internet has not become the great leveller that it was once thought it could be," according to Harvard academic Ethan Zuckerman. Mr Zuckerman was speaking at the TED Global (Technology Entertainment and Design) conference in Oxford. He said that the web was now contrary to the original utopian vision and users focused on information from a handful of wealthy countries.
