Why I’m Done Making Desktop Applications: MicroISV on a Shoestring
This summer, I decided to try stepping my web programming skills up a notch, and released a web version of Bingo Card Creator. It has exceeded all my expectations: in ease of writing, in features, in sales, in support burden, in marketability, etc. In game theory terms, it strictly dominates the desktop version, when seen from the eyes of the developer at any rate.

Strategic SEO for Startups: MicroISV on a Shoestring
ls: I’m a moderator in charge of programming topics at SEOBook and we get an awful lot of nuts and bolts questions like “How do I edit a title tag?” or “How do I do a 301 redirect in Apache?” Thankfully, since you presumably have programmers who know what they’re doing, you’ll never need to ask either of those. In addition, you can program tools and content to improve your marketing, including SEO. We’ll discuss specifics in a moment. Link Richness: SEO is, at competitive levels, mostly about link acquisition. It is very difficult to get a link without paying for it in many sector

Running A Software Business On 5 Hours A Week: MicroISV on a Shoestring
Code Is About 10% Of Your Business. Maybe Less. Are you considering starting up a business because you wish to work on wonderfully interesting technical problems all of the time? Stop now — Google is hiring, go get a job with them. 90% of the results of your business, and somewhere around 90% of the effort, are caused by non-coding activities: dealing with pre-sales inquiries, marketing, SEO, marketing, customer support, marketing, website copywriting, marketing, etc. Don’t do work on your business at your day job. DO NOT do work on your business at your day job. Do NOT do work on your business at your day job. It is morally and professionally inappropriate, it exposes you to legal liability (particularly if your business ends up successful), and it just causes headaches for all concerned.
