The Boy Who Lived Forever - TIME

http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,2081784-1,00.html

Great mainstream article about fanfiction. "It's human nature to press at the boundaries of stories, to scrabble at the edges, to want to know what's going on just out of range of the camera. Fan fiction teems with prequels and sequels, missing scenes restored and plot holes patched. It retells canonical stories from new points of view — the reverse-angle instant replay. How did the events of The Prisoner of Azkaban look from Neville Longbottom's perspective? Moaning Myrtle's? Mrs. Norris'? "To say that a story stops after we close a book is absurd," says Maltese. "To say that we can think certain things about a story or what might happen next in a story or what might have happened if someone had turned left instead of right but that we can't write them down is absurd."

Full List - 50 Best Websites 2009 - TIME
This site is particularly interesting given the overwhelming number of web 2.0 sites, especially in consideration of the previous lists. The proportion of interactive sites has increased immensely, even in the past two years. Yet another reminder of the speed with which web 2.0 has become a part of our lives. With sites such as Facebook, Last.Fm, Amazon, Google, Youtube and Twitter, the importance of incorporating web 2.0 principles when creating a web site is clear. However this also raises the question of whether these sites, and the content which we so obsessively upload and maintain, will have any historical, or cultural worth in the future.Given the rapid rise of web 2.0, how long is it before it is superseded by a new technological framework? Tracking the changes to "The 50 Best Websites" over time is just one way in which we can measure these changes, and the importance of them in the lives of this generation and of future ones.

Mad Man: Is Glenn Beck Bad for America? - TIME
Oh, Brother! More LIES from the state-run media propaganda machine! They're lying as usual & can't argue from that corrupt standpoint with Beck, who has the FACTS because he speaks the truth! Lacking an argument, they fight back by attacking the person speaking out with the usual "smear campaign" - you know, the same type of thing (although false) they whined about in the Van Jones issue. Major hypocrisy! These large media corporations like CNN TIME WARNER have a vested interest in discrediting and portraying Glenn Beck in a false light because he is exposing the FACTS about the administrations' underlying agenda in which the media is complicit. The corporate media are helping the administration discredit and silence all who even hint at exposing them. They are helping this administration conceal the truth and keep Americans in the dark. State-run media. Disgusting.

The iPad Launch: Can Steve Jobs Do It Again? - TIME
2010-04-01, by Stephen Fry, "(...) back in those days the Mac was derided as a toy, a media poseur's plaything and a shallow triumph of style over substance by those with a belief that computers, as utilitarian tools performing serious functions for business, should be under the control not of the user but of IT technicians and systems engineers (...) It is possible that the public will not fall on the iPad, as I did, like lions on an antelope. Perhaps they will find the apps and the iBooks too expensive. Maybe they will wait for more fully featured later models. But for me, my iPad is like a gun lobbyist's rifle: the only way you will take it from me is to prise it from my cold, dead hands. One melancholy thought occurs as my fingers glide and flow over the surface of this astonishing object: Douglas Adams is not alive to see the closest thing to his Hitchhiker's Guide that humankind has yet devised."
