Why Our Civilization's Video Art and Culture is Threatened by the MPEG-LA
http://www.osnews.com/story/23236/Why_Our_Civilization_s_Video_Art_and_Culture_is_Threatened_by_the_MPEG-LA"..ALL modern video cameras.. come with a license agreement that says.. You can only use your professional camera for non-commercial purposes.. you must get a license from MPEG-LA and pay them royalties for each copy sold.. Also, all video editors and official media players.. MPEG-LA makes it difficult for camera manufacturers.. to use their codec any way they want!.. Recently, MPEG-LA extended their "free internet broadcasting AVC license" until 2015. So until then, users can use a licensed encoder.. if you stream your video with ads (e.g. Youtube, Vimeo), then that's a non-free usage.. Their license agreement is so broad, that ALLOWS for crazy lawsuits against 99.999% of the population (most people have watched a Youtube video, you see, even if themselves might not even own a PC).. circumstances where making art.. is illegal. Only big corporations would be able to even grab a camera and shoot.. a READ-ONLY CULTURE.. the problem CAN NOT be fixed by simply exporting.."

US Government Censors 70 Websites
by Thom Holwerda on Sat 27th Nov 2010 10:46 UTC IconThe US is really ramping up its war on intellectual property infringement, a war which I'm sure will be just as successful, cheap and supported by the people as the wars on drugs and terrorism. The US has started seizing the domain names of various websites through ICANN - not because owners of these sites were convicted of anything, but merely because complaints have been filed against them. Anyone want to take a guess how long it will be before the US government blocks WikiLeaks? Update: The blocks function outside of the US too. In other words, the US is forcing its views upon the rest of the world once again.
